Presenting SAMITOMOTO!
Those who know me will know my love for getting creative and in touch with your ‘right brain’. I have always believed that expressing your creativity, especially visual arts, is a precious journey for those who take the plunge to pick up a pencil and let their imagination go. I say the word ‘plunge’ because it can be quite a personal and vulnerable experience to put your inner self out there onto paper for all to see. And I say ‘precious’ because the act of getting in touch with your creative side is immeasurable in terms of that feeling you get when you tap into the unrestricted part of your mind where anything is. Clueword #1 :: imagination
So, when Samitomoto caught my attention I was excited ten fold because this game is of course perfect for simply getting kids and adults creative, but more importantly, it is a way to get you creative when you feel like you can’t be, or if you think you are not the ‘arty’ type. Everyone has an arty bit in them, and those who say they don’t just never knew how to bring it out. Until now. Samitomoto gets you there, and gratefully so – getting in touch with your creative side is like a letting your brain ‘play’, and we all need that in our lives.
And lets not look past the obvious – it’s fantastic for keeping the kids busy. And it’s keeping them busy with a creative activity – something kids these days don’t enough of in this techno saturated world.

These new colours definitely run true to the unique look we love Babyjo for.
SO after a little photo display, I am going to run over the benefits of Bamboo Fabric below, because as great as it is in it’s own merit, it has so many great properties it deserves a routine spruik to keep us all up to date.

Why choose Bamboo for clothing? Bamboo is fast becoming a well known organic option for clothing, and it’s no wonder, considering it has so many wonderful qualities:
Organically grown
Eco friendly & Sustainable – fastest growing plant on the earth and it improves soil quality as well
Biodegradable
Softer than the softest Cotton imaginable
Highly breathable, much more so than cotton
60% more absorbent than cotton.
Wonderful for Eczema and allergy sufferers – Soothing to the skin
Wicks away moisture to keep you fresh and dry
Odour resistant – great for babies!
Washes and irons beautifully
Bamboo… Isn’t it rough and scratchy? A common question (until you feel it) – the idea of clothing made from bamboo conjures up thoughts of scratchy, itchy clothing, however don’t be mislead by your mind! Bamboo fabric is super soft, luxuriant and definitely something that you would be happy to clothe your bub in. It can best be described as a cross between silk and cashmere, lightweight, yet clever enough to keep bub warm in winter and cool in summer (thermo regulating).
Is Bamboo antibacterial? Bamboo (the plant) has it’s own antibacterial and anti fungal properties, thanks to a natural substance in the plant (Bamboo Kun) which helps it to fight off disease and insects. The finished fabric retains these properties.
Why is Bamboo good for allergy and eczema sufferers?
Bamboo is more breathable than cotton, and so it is wonderful for Eczema and Allergy sufferers. There is a noticeable difference in the feel between bamboo and cotton, it is so soft and comforting – this can be attributed to the structure of the fibre, which is smooth and round – it caresses the skin, instead of rubbing on it. Bamboo fibre is also hypoallergenic when compared to other fabrics as it is not treated with a chemical antimicrobial during production – (this is sometimes added to other fabrics to create antibacterial properties.) Bamboo absorbs moisture (limitation of water contact is important in managing eczema as it dries out the skin) and keeps baby’s body fresh for hours.

Homegrown Pumpkin Soup

I am a true fan of anything pumpkin, especially soup. And, as you will learn I am very passionate about my vege garden. So to cook a meal from the produce of my own garden is nothing short of perfect satisfaction for me. You may get the gist of this little passion of mine for the sheer fact that I regularly photograph my veges as they grow, and what I cook with them. My children used to shake their heads at me in confusion over my sanity, but now they are just used to it; it’s just a weird normal for them that their mum photographs her food. My son asks why I bother putting so much effort into the presentation of my food. My dear son: you do not need a reason in life to enjoy doing something, you just enjoy it or you don’t, however large or small that thing may be. And much to his dismay, and probably wishing by now he hadn’t asked at all, I continue on with a little more home-grown philosophising. And as well my dear son: it is not the end result that should measure your satisfaction, it is the act of enjoying the process of each step, taking each step as it is for the important part it plays in the process; miss or rush a step and you miss out on something great. Just enjoy the process of whatever you do as much as you enjoy the outcome. I hope you enjoy my recipe. 1 pumkin cut into roasting size cubes :: 3 spanish red onions quartered :: 4 cloves of garlic whole :: good splash of olive oil to cover – about 1/4 cup :: Roast in a hot oven, around 210 degrees till the veges have a nice caramelised colour |

While the pumpkin is roasting add to 1 litre of vegetable stock 1 tbsp of dijon mustard, and 1 tbsp of honey. Once the pumpkin has cooked let it cool before adding it to a saucepan over a low heat. Add about 1 cup of the stock mixture and blend with a stick mixer. Gradually add the rest of the stock mixture until you have the desired thickness. Water can be added if further thinning is required. Take off the heat and serve. My personal preference is very thick and served with a dollop off sour cream and fresh chives form the garden. Enjoy! |

up to speed …
Were you around for the news? It was an exciting day on the 6th of May (rhyme!) Trifle was handed over to none other than mwah!
Me. Justine.
It’s been Two weeks now. I’ve had my head buried the whole time trying to get up to speed, so I thought it best I come up for air and pop in to say ‘hello’.
‘Hello‘
This Trifle Shoppe really is a treasure and a huge credit to all the people previously involved in it’s creation. I am smitten. I think it is just the place I want to be, and although I have a way to go, this journey will be a great one.
I know things have been fairly quite on the blog front here, but hey, think of it as the calm before the storm! We’re in for a great ride. I hope you’ll join me in watching this fabulous place grow.
Now off to get some colour into this blog hey!
